Local Students on the Pathway to Success

Two students from Alta-1 College in Belmont are eyeing careers in the transport and logistics industry having been awarded training scholarships following their participation in a coaching program run by a Wanneroo-based charitable organisation called Pathway to Success Rugbyworks (P2S RUGBYWORKS).

Trae Lehner (17) and Sebastian Ross (18) have already completed two training courses run by one of Perth’s leading training organisations for the transport and logistics industry – Nationwide Training, a long-time sponsor of P2S RUGBYWORKS – and have also embarked on a forklift training course that will pave the way for them to apply for their forklift licences.

Trae was also successful in obtaining a work placement with Muldoon Tiles in Osborne Park, where he was able to put his new skills into practice.
Founder and CEO of P2S RUGBYWORKS – Fraser Griggs – said that what Trae and Sebastian had achieved was a real credit to them both and a very pleasing endorsement of the P2S RUGBYWORKS coaching program. “I am extremely proud of Trae and Sebastian and of the role the P2S RUGBYWORKS coaches have played in helping them achieve the first step on their path to sustained employment. We are also very grateful to Nationwide Training for providing the training scholarships for Trae and Sebastian.”, Mr Griggs said.

Those comments were echoed by P2S RUGBYWORKS’ Head of Coaching, Bob Dayman, who said, “Trae and Sebastian’s achievements are especially pleasing to me as they show that our coaching program is working. The key aim of our program is to help our young people develop and hone vital life skills that will assist them in finding sustainable employment and set them on the path to successful and fulfilling lives. The success Trae and Sebastian have had, gives me real confidence that we are delivering on that key aim.”

Gavin Trim, CEO at Nationwide Training said “When I first heard about P2SRW at a Transport industry forum I knew straight away Nationwide Training would be an ideal supporter. Nationwide Training committed to a 3-year Gold Sponsorship which included training scholarship programs for 2 students. By supporting P2SRW we are providing support and opportunities for students and also promoting the transport and logistics industry. Trae and Sebastian applied for the scholarship and were both successful. They both had the options of selecting any courses that we deliver including Forklift or Order Picker High Risk Work Licences, Dangerous Goods storage and Handling, Load Restraint, Safe Manual Handling and Chain of Responsibility which are in most workplaces entry level training requirements to work in the Transport Industry. Both of these young men really enjoyed their training courses. Trae is not 18 years of age yet but he will return to complete his Forklift Training in 2022.

In 2021 and beyond, P2S RUGBYWORKS is looking to help more young people like Trae and Sebastian by taking its coaching program into even more schools and colleges across the Perth metropolitan area.
