Mercy College in Mirrabooka
P2S RUGBYWORKS breaks new ground inside of mainstream education
On the recommendation of Dr Anne Aly, Federal Member for Cowan, Mercy College in Mirrabooka invited P2S RUGBYWORKS to conduct ‘taster’ sessions for selected Year 9 and 10 students to try to improve their soft skills and employability attributes. The sessions recently concluded after four weeks (8 sessions) and we felt they went well. Deputy Principal of Mercy College, Jennie Jago wrote the following testimonial in response to our program:
A handpicked small group of twelve Year 9 (girls and boys) and ten Year 10 (boys) students had the opportunity to test drive and pilot the P2S Rugby Works program at Mercy College. The students had the opportunity to build trust and maintain relationships through the medium of rugby. They developed their soft employability skills (problem solving, communication, teamwork and critical thinking). Students were able to learn from their mistakes and resolve problems with others in the team. Pathway to Success (P2S) Rugby Works promotes resilience. It is about helping your people to become aware of the impact of their behaviour on others and to build their commitment to personal accountability and responsibility. Thank you to Fraser Griggs for allowing us the opportunity to see how the program works over a four week block of time. The feedback from the students was very positive as they engaged with the coaches.
The students had the opportunity to work with Bob, Duncan, Tel and Alan. We also met one of the sponsors Glen from Rugged Edge on the last Friday. We hope to incorporate the program into our 2019 Year 10 Vocational Education Training classes.

Alta-1 Merriwa
Fresh from Alta-1 Merriwa becoming our first contracted school we ran our second ‘Official’ session with the enrolled youngsters.
We had perfect weather for the session and everyone had a great time with our coaches Bob and Andrew.
This is just the start of a journey for these youngsters as we seek to mentor them through their development of lifeskill to make them work ready.
Later in the programme we will start to introduce them to some work and training opportunities so they can reintegrate with their communities and start contributing to their own future and the WA economy.
WE believe our RUGBYWORKS programme will not only get them fit for purpose, but Fit WITH a Purpose!!
